§ A168-14. Headwalls.

  • Headwalls of concrete or mortared stone masonry shall be constructed at the outlet and inlet ends of culvert pipe. Culverts shall extend to the toe of embankment. See Figure 3 for details of construction. The bearing of all headwalls shall have a solid base. If soft material is encountered, it shall be removed and backfilled with select granular subgrade material as defined in § A168-23A of this chapter. It shall be the responsibility of the developer that no headwalls shall crack or become tipped from settlement. An air-entrained concrete mix of 4,000 pounds per square inch after 28 days shall be used.
